Hello,
I've been a small time knife collector for a few years now, and have recently become more interested in the makeing of them.
I am going to be apprenticing under a welder who has a plasma cutter, and both of us think it would be great to cut blanks for knives out of. We would have access to virtually any kind of steel, but the problem is that we wouldn't know how to shape the blade or put a proper edge to it. I was hopein that some enthusiests, and or craftsmen, would be able to...

This scan is of the two filters I changed from my mask tonight. this is roughly 10 average sized knives worth of metal and wood dust. The dark one is the dirty side and the white is the other side (the inside)BIG difference. These little filters are relatively cheap and stop alot of grit from being breathed in.
Hi all!!

Not sure if anyone seen this, but I bought some of it at Revy. Does anyone know what type of steel this is? According to Tim McCreight's book on Custom Knifemaking, the spark pattern from my grinder indicates it's some sort of high carbon based steel. I'm using a propane torch for the HT (still a newbie at this!!) - I can't get to non-magnetic, but close (wrong type of brick??). I'm quenching in motor oil. It seems to go hard - I can get that glassy sound when I run a file...
